4th of July, still any meaning?
What a beautiful day, this 4th of July. Going out to retrieve the morning paper, I was surprised not to see another flag, of any size, being displayed on my block. There are twenty houses and not one sign of evidence that any American lives on this block. My flags are placed in and around the front yard so all can see. You would think this could inspire some of the neighbors, especially those with children, to get off their buts and set out a flag. It makes me wonder if we really care at all. Has the education failed to teach the meaning of the 4th of July or have we finally succumbed to the continuous drum beat that our country is failing. Perhaps we are!! If no one has the time or passion to at least recognize this day as being special, then we have failed. There are so many people in America today that do not know what or why this day is special. History in foreign countries do not teach about our Declaration of Independence, so how can we expect them to celebrate. Of course anyone will attend a party or celebration if it is free regardless of the occasion. The strength of America is all of us becoming Americans again. Stand up for America and quit going along with the deluding of the American spirit. We can regain the national pride by starting to acknowledge that we are Americans and not just part American. Let us return to the time that respect and self reliance was the back bone of the country and government was not the be all end all solution to everything. Start today to change yourself and the rest will follow. Fly your flag or not, your still an American. Let us all begin to stand a little straighter and be proud when we here our patriotic songs. Being an American is a privilege not all people have and many want. We have it, so let's not loose it. Have a Great and Memorable 4th of July. Happy Birthday America and many more.
